We were able to squeeze in one last appointment in our summer schedule. Stella has a sleep study every 6 months to ensure her bipap settings are adequately supporting her respiratory needs. She currently only wears her bipap when she sleeps or when she is ill. The bipap is a non-invasive (invasive would be a trach) positive airway pressure therapy for sleep apnea. It supports her breathing as it keeps the throat muscles from collapsing and reducing obstructions allowing her to breathe easily and regularly.
The “sleep study” is ironically named as with all those wires and the loud hospital environment its almost impossible to get a decent nights rest.
We will get her results in a couple of weeks.
