A big day for Stella, Myles and I. Stella started her first day at nursery school here in Mississauga. We will have overlap during the month of February as we slowly remove her from Holland Bloorview Nursery School in High Park. We have loved it there, and it was a great and easy first step for us with it already being an integrated program. They accommodated her so well and treated her like their own! She will really miss the friends and teachers there!
That said, with Myles returning to work, it not practical to have nanny Dee take her to and from Toronto everyday so back in December we started looking into how to enrol her in a “normal” nursery school and how to get her the support that she would need. After searching for accessible schools (which is a shockingly short list), we discovered Lynwood Nursery School, a short 10 minute drive from our house. After meeting at the facility with the Program Director we were sold. They have been more than helpful and accommodating to all our requests and needs. Erin Oak Kids has also been fantastic, coming out to our house to do an assessment, shadowing her teachers at Holland Bloorview, and placing a Resource Teacher with Stella while she is at nursery school.
This has been a great eye-opener for us as to how the elementary school process will work for Stella and how we will have to advocate early and hard to get her what she needs. We are looking forward to our little social butterfly developing her social skills even more as she gets to know these new friends and teachers!
Here are some pictures of her first day. No anxiety for this one. Smiles and giggles for everyone! xo
